Sex - ratio in natural populations of Drosophila mediopunctata ( Diptera : Drosophilidae
نویسندگان
چکیده
The sex-ratio trait has been described as the production of progenies with unequal sexual proportions induced by meiotic drive. In Drosophila, meiotic drive of the X chromosome against the Y (yielding female biased progenies) is known in several species, including in Drosophila mediopunctata. This species has been previously studied, and the chromosome mechanism of the meiotic drive in sex-ratio was described. However, many questions around the evolution and maintenance of the sex-ratio system in D. mediopunctata remain unclear. Due to the lack of ecologic information about this problem, the aim of this work was to evaluate the sex-ratio in two D. mediopunctata natural populations in four seasons during a year period. The results showed a seasonal average sex-ratio around one male for two females (1:2), and also a seasonal fluctuation of the male proportion following temperature variation. These results could indicate that natural selection, possibly related to the temperature and others environmental factors, can be the main process in the D. mediopunctata sex-ratio pattern in natural populations.

Background: Flubendiamide, comparatively a new pesticide designed to eradicate lepidopteran insect pests is known to have low risk to birds, mammals, fish, algae, honey bees, non-target arthropods, earthworms, soil macro- and micro-organisms, non-target plants as well as sewage treatment organisms; however, the risk assessment for aquatic invertebrates from metabolite could not be finalized wit...

Drosophila serido Vilela & Sene is a polytypic and cactophilic species with broad geographic distribution in Brazil. The morphology of the aedeagi of eight natural populations of D. serido was analyzed. Based on features of their aedeagi, populations of D. serido were discriminated with an efficiency of nearly 75%. The analysis using the Mantel test suggests that the morphological divergence of...
متن کاملDevelopment, reproductive output and population growth of the fruit fly pest Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae) on artificial diet.
Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura) (Diptera: Drosophilidae) is a fruit pest of Asian origin that invaded North America in 2008. Despite the widespread economic impact of this species, much of the biology and general life history of this pest remains largely unknown. Under optimal laboratory conditions (22 degrees C, approximately 25% relative humidity), we measured development, survival, fecundity,...

The allele amplification and diversity of 18 microsatellite loci described for Drosophila mediopunctata (tripunctata group) was studied in two species of the Drosophila guarani group, D. ornatifrons (guarani subgroup) and D. maculifrons (guaramunu subgroup), collected in fragments of Araucaria Forest from southern Brazil. The selected loci were already tested in lineages of both species from D....
